The five-year Retail Banking Leadership Programme is a unique chance to become one of our future leaders. What will the future bring? Will mobile phone banking become the next big thing? Will internet entirely replace traditional banking offices? We serve millions of customers, so the decisions you make have ample impact and involve a high level of empathy. What will you do?
The Retail Banking Leadership Programme is all about becoming one of our future leaders in the Retail field. To reach your goals quickly, we will facilitate personal and professional growth in three steps:
Project phase
First you will need to find out which field suits you best. During an orientation phase of 12 to 18 months you will work on two or three challenging projects. One of them might take you abroad for six months.
A good example of a project in this phase is a HYPERLINK "javascript:callMessage1(0);" Change Management project, which focused on the introduction of the Postbank Car Insurance (now rebranded to ING). Besides these individual projects you get the opportunity to catch the eye of the people at the top. Together with fellow trainees you work on a high-impact, six-month HYPERLINK "javascript:callMessage2();" group assignment, personally initiated by one of our Retail board members. On a weekly basis you motivate and inspire each other while learning from practise. Of course there will be ample of room to focus on your own specific needs according to your development and you will improve your leadership competences during several training sessions at The Baak.
First position
In the next phase of around two years you will start your first position. Based in the Netherlands, you will gain more experience in your field of choice and increase your knowledge, skills and network. Depending on your abilities and interests, you will become a:

This is how you qualify
To join the programme you will need a Masters degree, preferably in any Business, Economic or Technical field. But even more important is the kind of person you are. We want to feel a connection, so we would like to know if you are comfortable working at a company striving for a winning performance culture: rising to challenging goals and taking responsibility for making things happen. We are looking for people who share our can-do mentality, passion for teamwork and focus on results. Furthermore, you will need the following qualities and/or work experience:

Orientation & Retail introduction
You will start with an extensive welcome programme to familiarise yourself with ING. Furthermore, you will master a number of fundamental skills related to presentation, positioning, communication, influence and project management. On top of that, you will learn everything you need about Retail. Through several network events you will be able to build your network and share your experiences with fellow trainees.
Leadership programme
The leadership curriculum will help you grow as a leader. The plenary part about general leadership topics is aimed at your entire year group. During your first HYPERLINK "javascript:callMessage2();" group assignment your follow several training sessions at The Baak, focussing on two competencies of the ING Leadership Profile: ‘collaboration’ and ‘achieves results through execution’. From then on, each year you focus on two other competencies. On a personal level you will get unique business assignments that will bring your leadership skills to an even higher level.
Job-specific
The job-specific programme will provide on demand job-specific knowledge and skills. You will get the opportunity to participate in educational programmes that have a fit with your development needs.
Guidance
You will benefit from active personal guidance and on-the-job coaching from your career officer from Human Resources and your first line managers. Together you will make an annual tailor-made plan of your learning activities and future career steps. And what’s more, you will get a personal mentor on an executive level, who will be your sparring partner on the challenges you run into.
